What is Conquer the Map?

Conquer the Map is a free-to-play, browser-based multiplayer strategy game. We take the classic world-domination board game format and bring it to your browser — no app, no download, no waiting. Just open a room and play. The game supports up to 6 players per room with real-time WebSocket-powered multiplayer. Every session is unique: secret mission objectives, a dynamic card system, and continent control bonuses ensure no two games play out the same way. Whether you're a first-time player or a seasoned strategist, you can be in a game within 30 seconds of arriving.

Our Mission

We believe great strategy games should be accessible. Not locked behind paywalls, not requiring powerful hardware, not forcing you to install anything. Our mission is to build the best browser strategy game on the planet — one that's easy to learn, deep to master, and fun to play with friends or strangers. Every feature we build starts with one question: does this make the game more fun or more fair? We don't add complexity for its own sake. We add depth that rewards players who invest time in learning the game without punishing those who just want a casual match.

The Game

Conquer the Map supports up to 6 players per room and includes: • Real-time multiplayer powered by WebSockets — moves are instant across all clients • AI bots for solo practice or filling incomplete rooms • Mission objectives system — every player has a secret goal assigned at game start • Country Cards — earned by conquering territories, traded for bonus draft armies • Situational Cards — drawn each round, applying global effects that shift the meta • A global leaderboard with division rankings and coin rewards for top finishers • Premium competitive features for serious players who want larger rooms The game runs entirely in the browser using Next.js and Socket.io on a single custom server. No plugins, no installs — works on desktop and mobile.

The Team

We are a small independent studio passionate about strategy games and accessible web experiences. We build everything ourselves — game engine, backend, frontend, and infrastructure. We move fast, listen to the community, and ship often. Our stack is TypeScript end-to-end: Next.js 15 on the frontend, a custom Node.js server with Socket.io for real-time multiplayer, and PostgreSQL for persistent player data. We chose this stack because it lets a small team own the full product without sacrificing performance or reliability. We started building Conquer the Map because we couldn't find a great, free, browser-native version of this type of game — so we built one ourselves.
