Welcome to Conquer the Map

The Conquer Team·2026-03-15
We're thrilled to officially launch Conquer the Map — a browser-based multiplayer strategy game that brings the classic world-domination experience directly to your browser, no install required. Why did we build this? We wanted a Risk-style game that was fast to start, great-looking, and playable with friends anywhere. No app store, no download, no account wall blocking you from your first game. Every time we tried to play a territory conquest game online, we ran into the same friction: downloads, installs, outdated clients, or paywalled content. We decided to build the version we wished existed. The core design principle was simple: you should be in a game within 30 seconds of arriving at the site. We built everything around that goal — guest play, instant room creation, a six-character room code system you can share in a text message, and real-time WebSocket multiplayer that keeps every player's view in sync without page refreshes. What's live right now: Real-time multiplayer with up to 6 players per room. Every game action — army placement, attacks, dice rolls, fortifications — is broadcast instantly to all players using Socket.io WebSockets. The server is the single source of truth; there's no client-side prediction that can desync during combat. AI bots for solo practice. If you want to learn the game before playing against humans, or if a player drops mid-game, bots fill in automatically. The bots play a balanced strategy — they're not push-overs, but they won't crush a new player either. Ranked leaderboard with divisions. Coins are earned after multiplayer games with at least 3 human players: 10 coins for first place, 4 for second, 2 for third, 1 for all others. These coins feed your leaderboard ranking. The leaderboard is global and updates in real time. Country cards and situational cards. Country cards are earned when you conquer at least one territory in a turn. Trade matching sets of three during your draft phase for bonus armies. Situational cards are drawn at the start of each full round and apply effects to all players — Snow, Favorable Wind, Closed Borders, Extra Reinforcements, and more. These cards fundamentally change how you approach each round. Mission objectives system. Every player is assigned a secret objective at the start of the game. Objectives include conquering specific combinations of continents, holding 18 or 24 territories, or eliminating a specific opponent from the game. The first player to complete their mission wins — not necessarily the player with the most territories. This creates a hidden layer of strategy: you never know what your opponents are working toward. Premium tier for 5–6 player games. The free tier supports rooms of up to 4 players. Premium unlocks hosting rooms of 5–6 players, a crown badge on your profile and commander card, priority matchmaking, exclusive chat emotes, and a gold frame on the leaderboard. Guests can always join larger rooms for free — only the host needs Premium. How territory conquest works: The 42-territory world map is divided into six continents, each with a different bonus for controlling the entire continent at the start of your turn. North America grants +5 armies, South America +2, Europe +5, Africa +3, Asia +7, and Australia +2. These bonuses stack on top of your base reinforcement, which is territories owned divided by 3 (minimum 3). Combat uses a dice comparison system. The attacker can roll up to 3 dice (limited by armies available to commit, maximum 3). The defender rolls up to 2 dice. Each die is compared highest-to-highest: the attacker wins ties only if they roll strictly higher — ties go to the defender. This gives defenders a statistical edge in individual combats, which is intentional: aggressive play needs to be rewarded by position, not just raw army count. What's coming soon: More maps are in development. A European theater map and an Asian theater map are both in design. We're also exploring a smaller 24-territory map for faster games. Clan and guild system. Form a group with regular opponents, track your collective ranking, and compete in clan-vs-clan tournaments. Seasonal tournaments. CC26 — our first official tournament — kicks off in April 2026. Full bracket, prizes, and spectator mode. See the tournament announcement post for details. Mobile-optimised touch controls. The game currently works on mobile but was designed desktop-first. We're rebuilding the touch interaction layer to make mobile feel native. Thank you for being part of this from the beginning. The community Discord is the best place to give feedback, report bugs, and see what's being shipped next. See you on the battlefield.
